Alaska Day 2

Alaska at first light! Very dark and dim and glum frankly. BUT... An adventure was about to begin!

Picked up Steve. Drove down the Seward Hwy. There are several stops along here for tourists with geographical information. The Seward Hwy follows the turnagain arm which is an inlet from the ocean. Pretty amazing site really.

You are not supposed to walk out there. Steve does anything your not supposed to do. More of Steve sitting right next to the rushing tide. This is one of the stops along the road. We're looking toward Anchorage probably only about 30 miles south.

By the way, the water is so silty that if you walk into it you will likely get stuck. It's a bit like quicksand. Then, the fun begins.... you may not be able to get unstuck in time before the tide comes in and you drown. This place is so fun!

Just another shot of the arm looking south.

Looking West.

This is a luxury ski resort lodge called Alyeska. We slipped off East about 6 miles in to get here.

Drove back out and went only about 5 miles further south and came here.

It's right by a touristy spot where the Alaska Railroad may stop during the busy tourist season. At this time it was dead. Steve and I just took in the scenery. Even Steve had not been down here. He hadn't been much anywhere south of Anchorage since his arrival in May. He then had an idea...

Why don't we just go back to Anchorage, get our shit and get camping and get out of here?

I could not drive any fucking faster. We drove right back to his place in Anchorage and then hit the road again, wound up at Seward and turned around (can't drive into the Ocean) and found a campground 28 miles back up the road.

All in all, from the spot Steve said "we should just go" we drove another 220+ miles that evening alone.

Here we are at our arrival in Seward later that evening. Fishing town. But very beautiful. This is the actual Ocean here. The Seward Bay.A mural in the town. They have a really big-ass main street.I liked the mural. The harbor was pretty sweet.
Steve chatted for a while on the bridge with a hippie bum who roams about.Turns out there was a Sea Lion in the harbor! It would throw a dead fish into the air and try to catch it. That was cool to watch. Here he is about to toss...Drove back out as mentioned and found a mostly deserted campground. Found a spot with some wood and had a great time. But later Steve found some drunken neighbor friends and brought them over. They fought about politics for the following 3 or 4 hours. I tried to include myself but was only successful a couple of times during the first 20 minutes of their stay. From there on out they argued, yelled, screamed and dumped vodka around the premesis and in the fire. I'm not kidding.Afterward Steve had only this to say: "I wish I didn't invite them over."

Alaska Day 1

This is actually the beginning of Day 2. Day 1 was interesting, but I am restricted from sharing that information. Sorry!
